Creative Overview

Creative provides Python helpers and a native C++ SDK for programmatic input control inside script packages that support Creative. It is intended for user scripts that need to set button, trigger, or stick output from Python without dealing with low-level buffer handling.

Use Creative when you want to:

  • Write short Python input-control scripts
  • Trigger button/stick output from simple conditions
  • Set controller output values from Python, including precise stick-axis values when needed
  • Keep script code focused on behavior instead of data packing

Install Creative scripts through the host package’s Creative scripts list. They use different entry points from a standalone Helios CVWorker script. For native extensions, see C++ Creative Scripts.

Script Shape

Creative scripts use two common entry points:

python
def scan(button_bytes, stick_bytes, **kwargs):
    return

def iterate(button_bytes, stick_bytes, **kwargs):
    return

scan runs at the beginning of the frame, before the rest of the script logic. It sees the unaltered input/frame state, so use it when a script needs to inspect or prepare values before other logic changes them.

iterate runs at the end of the frame, after script logic has already run and before the frame is returned. It sees the results of the current frame after other script logic has iterated on it, so most output writes belong there.

Public Surface

Creative scripts should use the documented helper surface: import the helper, create a Combo instance, attach the frame output handles in iterate, and set output values with set_val. Use set_precision_stick only when a stick axis needs fractional precision.

Runtime Context

Keep **kwargs in entry point signatures so scripts stay compatible with runtime context. Some workflows pass live-state objects through **kwargs; live states are shared runtime views for the current frame, with script-specific keys and fields shown in the script GUI.

Notes

  • Creative docs intentionally cover only the API intended for user-created scripts.
  • For controller scripting language docs, use the GPC3 Reference.
